Airport transportBefore you fly
Please check the rules for your passport and your whole itinerary before booking, and again before departure.
Visa rules depend on your nationality, passport type, reason for travel and length of stay, not simply where you live. Check the official exemption list below. If you need a visa, arrange it before you travel; South African ports of entry do not issue visas.
For full British citizen passports: tourist visits are currently visa-free for up to 90 days. Your passport must remain valid for at least 30 days after your planned departure from South Africa and have at least two blank pages. Check the expiry date on your entry stamp and the separate requirements for any transit stops.
South African dual nationals aged 18 or over must use a South African passport when entering and leaving South Africa.
British dual nationals: travel back to the UK with a valid British passport, or check the official guidance for other accepted documents. British citizens cannot use an ETA.
Keep your accommodation details and return or onward travel confirmation with you.
Since 1 July 2026, travellers entering or leaving South Africa must submit an online traveller declaration before travel, apart from limited paper-based exceptions. Each traveller must be covered, including children.
Complete the declaration through SARS and keep the email confirmation on your phone or printed. Follow the customs instructions it contains. This does not replace a visa.
Official SARS declarationA yellow-fever certificate is required for travellers over one year old arriving from a risk country, including certain airport transits longer than 12 hours. Ask a travel-health professional about your complete route well before departure.
Muldersdrift is outside South Africa's designated malaria-risk areas. Safari extensions, including Kruger, may need different precautions. Get advice for every destination on your trip.
Check that your routine vaccinations are up to date and seek personal travel-health advice ideally four to six weeks before departure. Arrange travel insurance covering medical care, disruption and any activities you plan.
TravelHealthPro guidanceDocument requirements depend on nationality, guardianship and who accompanies a child. Check Home Affairs and your airline well in advance, especially if a child travels with one parent, another adult or alone.
Travel-document guidance does not indicate whether children are included in your wedding invitation.
Official entry guidance & Home Affairs linksPre-book a hotel or reputable private transfer from the airport. If you use an e-hailing service, book in the app, wait in the designated pick-up area and check the driver and vehicle registration before entering.
Use main roads, keep valuables out of sight, avoid walking after dark and download your route for offline use. Check current official travel advice shortly before departure.
UK safety and transport guidanceCurrency: South African rand (ZAR). Carry a backup payment method and use ATMs in secure locations. Check your bank's international fees.
Power: bring an adaptor specifically labelled for South Africa. Large three-round-pin sockets are common; check your devices' voltage compatibility.
Time: all wedding times will use SAST (UTC+2). Johannesburg does not change its clocks for daylight saving.
Connection: check your roaming or eSIM plan before arrival and download hotel and transfer details for offline use.
